An “exciting singer with a killer voice” (Chris Ruel, Operawire), Sara Kennedy is an American soprano from Austin, TX. She is celebrated for her lush, powerful sound, commanding stage presence, and her powerful interpretations of Mozart’s heroines.

With a “rich soprano sound” (Robert Croan, Palm Beach Arts Paper), Sara joins the Florida Grand Opera Studio for their 2023-2024 season where she will perform Annina and cover Violetta in La traviata, Musetta in La bohème, and cover the role of Nedda in Pagliacci.

In the summer of 2023, Sara made her debut(s) with Opera Arlington performing Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte as well as Teatro Grattacielo/Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy and Painted Sky Opera performing Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. In March 2023, Sara was awarded 2nd Prize in the Bonnie Cummins Fielder Grant for Vocal Career Advancement by the Wednesday Morning Music Club of Austin.

In 2022, Sara joined Sarasota Opera as an Apprentice Artist for their Winter Season and, that summer, went on to be an Opera Fellow at OperaFest Sewanee. In July 2022, Sara was named a winner of the Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition where she performed “Mercè, dilette amiche” from I vespri siciliani with the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Gene Moon.

In December 2020, Sara made her debut with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra in their Christmas Collage Concert under the direction of Maestro David Itkin. In May 2021, She returned to the Abilene Philharmonic to perform with Phantom of the Opera alumn, Kristen Hertzenberg.

In 2019, along with her three Mozart role debuts (Fiordiligi, Konstanze, and Donna Anna), Sara placed 1st in the Graduate Women’s division at NATS-Texoma Region as well as being named a winner of the University of North Texas College of Music Concerto Competition. Her last performance before the COVID-19 pandemic was “Martern aller Arten” with the UNT Symphony Orchestra at the Concerto Winners’ Concert on March 4th, 2020.

Sara completed her Graduate Artist Certificate in Opera from the University of North Texas in 2021. She also holds a BM in Music Education and an MM in Vocal Performance (University of North Texas). She currently studies with world-renowned soprano, Jennifer Rowley.
